Efficacy of different fungicides on powdery mildew and yield parameters of pea

In all, eight fungicides viz., kitazin, dimethomorph, mancozeb, copper oxychloride, difenoconazole, hexaconazole, propiconazole and carbendazim were evaluated against pea powdery mildew at Research Farm Neri, Hamirpur (HP) during 2010 – 11 crop seasons where plants of cv. Azad P-I of pea were planted in plots of size 1 x 1m. Observations were recorded on disease severity and yield parameters like pod yield per plot (kg), number of pods per plant, pod length (cm), number of seeds per pod and per cent disease control. It was found that the mean disease severity was minimum (25.00%) in the plots sprayed with hexaconazole being statistically at par with those sprayed with carbendazim (27.78%) exhibiting 73.53 and 70.58 per cent disease control, respectively. Mancozeb and copper oxychloride were least effective with 14.71 and 17.64 per cent disease control, and maximum disease severity (80.55 and 77.78%, respectively). As far as the pod yield was concerned, it was found to be maximum (3.627 kg/plot) in the plots sprayed with hexaconazole followed by those sprayed with carbendazim and difenoconazole. Pod yield was minimum (1.217 kg/plot) in the untreated control plots and was statistically at par with the plots sprayed with mancozeb and copper oxychloride. Other yield parameters like average number of pods per plant, mean pod length and average number of seeds per pod ranged between 19.83 to 40.78, 80.00 to 91.25 and 6.83 to 8.75, respectively in different plots being maximum in hexaconazole treated plots and minimum in control plots. These results indicated that the yield parameters were directly correlated with the good health of the plants.
