The structure of a new chlorinated withanolide isolated from Withania somnifera chemotype III has been elucidated as 5 alpha-chloro,6 beta,14 alpha,17 beta,20 alpha(F)-tetrahydroxy-1-oxo-22R-witha-2,24-dienolide by 1H and 13C NMR and chemical ionization mass spectroscopy methods.
