The vertical distribution of the halocyprid ostracod genus Bathyconchoecia at 31°N 25°W, including a description of a new species
1989
ELLIS, C.J.
At 31°N,25°W samples of plankton were taken throughout the water column from the surface to within 10 m of the sea bed approximately 5440 m deep. The vertical distribution of Bathyconchoecia species is examined in relation to other planktonic ostracod genera. At this site, Bathyconchoecia species occur in the abyssopelagic and benthopelagic environments, and the highest density of specimens and diversity of species is encountered in the zone 50-25 m above the sea bed. A total of eighteen species of Bathyconchoecia were found in the samples of which only four have been described. A description of one of the unknown species is given herein.
