The paper deals with an approach which has resulted in achieving a plant density of as high as 1600 plants/ha with the new variety Amrapali and has helped in attaining a yield of 11.5 tonnes/ha in the 4th year. The yield increases regularly to about 22 tonnes/ha in the 9th year, which was hitherto unthinkable in mango where the national average of an orchard in full bearing age is a mere 8.67 tonnes/ha.
