Food marketing in transition in eastern and central Europe
1995
Henry, R. | Voltaire, K.
Macroeconomic stabilization has been a priority of the policy agenda in Eastern Europe. The issues of domestic price and trade liberalization have been prominent in the product market reform. Despite the importance of food distribution in the transition process, little attention has been paid to the sector and to an assistance program that would facilitate its adjustment to a market economy. This article reviews the structure and deficiencies of food distribution systems under the former regime, as well as some of the major developments observed during the current transition. Then some lessons learned from business and international organizations operations are drawn.
