Influence of blue, green and red light spectra on the growth and internal quality of Polygonum odoratum (Lour.) was investigated. The experiments with additional LED light were carried out in greenhouse and in climate chambers. The plants were cultivated with PAR ranging from 150 up to 200 µmol m-2 s-1, supplied by sunlight or fluorescent tubes, respectively. Additionally blue, green, and red light emitting diodes (LEDs) providing 10 to 20 µmol m-2 s-1 were used. The highest fresh matter could be determined in greenhouse and climate chamber with blue LEDs as additional lightening. In climate chamber chlorophyll and polyphenol content was slightly but insignificantly increased by LED lightening. Also changes in carotenoid content were not significant. The antioxidant activity was significantly increased using additional green LEDs light by 35%. The ascorbic acid content was reduced by LED lighting and even significantly by 28% using red LEDs. The contents of all internal compounds were lower in greenhouse cultivation than in climate chamber. The additional LED light in greenhouse affected only chlorophyll b and ascorbic acid content whereas green LEDs reduced chlorophyll b content by 14% and increased ascorbic acid content by 45%. Ascorbic acid content was also increased by 38% using red LEDs.
