Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)/poly(butylene succinate) (PBAT/PBS) films containing polyethylene oxide (PEO) in different proportions were developed. The films properties and its application for white mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) packaging were investigated. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed the interaction between PEO and PBAT/PBS through hydrogen bonding. The scanning electron microscopy result showed that PEO was dispersed uniformly in the films as a whole. With increasing content of PEO, the oxygen permeability of films reduced, while carbon oxygen permeability increased as a whole, resulting in the increased permeability ratio of CO₂/O₂ from 9.112 to 12.069. The films for mushrooms packaging showed that the quality deterioration of mushrooms was delayed with increased content of PEO, owing to the increasing permeability ratio of CO₂/O₂. The PBAT/PBS film containing 15% PEO showed the best quality protective effectiveness. Thus, the film with reasonable gas selective permeability was prospective to be used for fruits and vegetables packaging.
