Seed yield from polluted stands of Pinus sylvestris L
2000
Palowski, B.
The number of seed scales, filled and empty seeds were evaluated for two populations growing in polluted environments in southern Poland and one clean population growing in northeastern Poland. The number of filled seeds ranged from 23 to 25 per cone from both polluted and clean pine stands. The variation of investigated characters was higher among years than between polluted populations and the clean one. This could be due to protection by the plant of the traits of generative propagation against poisonous impact of industrial contaminants.
