Effect of plant growth regulators on rooting of bougainvillea var. ‘Manila Red’ through hardwood cuttings

An experiment was undertaken to study the effect of different concentration of growth regulators (NAA, IBA and IAA) on rooting of hardwood cuttings in bougainvillea var. ‘Manila Red’ under Bundelkhand conditions of Uttar Pradesh. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with three replications at Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, College of Horticulture, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda during August to October, 2020. Data were collected on survival of cuttings, number of vegetative buds per cutting, length of longest shoot, shoot fresh weight per plant, shoot dry weight per plant, length of longest root, root fresh weight per plant and root dry weight per plant and subjected to Analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that survival percentage of cuttings varied from 17.00 to 87.67%. Number of vegetative buds per cutting was recorded maximum (3.40) for IBA treatment at concentration of 7000 ppm followed IBA 6000 ppm. Maximum shoot fresh weight/plant (10.63 g) and dry weight/plant (1.02 g) was observed for NAA treatment at concentration of 7000 ppm. The shoot length (34.37 cm), root length (11.14 cm), root fresh weight per plant (1.53 g) and root dry weight per plant (0.390 g) was recorded maximum for IBA treatment at concentration of 6000 ppm.
