Frozen-prepared plate dinners and entrees - cost vs. convenience
1979
Isom, Pamela
The costs of selected frozen plate dinners and entrees and the costs of their home-prepared counterparts were compared in a study conducted in the Washington, D.C. area in the fall of 1978. All commercial plate dinners and entrees cost more than similar home-prepared products, and some cost more than double, as shown in an accompanying chart. Chicken pie cost only 9% more than home-prepared, while lasagna cost 127% more. Advantages of frozen-prepared meals are: reduced time and effort, elimination of preparation and cleanup chores, increased variety, fewer leftovers and less waste.
