A literature review summarizes and discusses reported data that malnutrition can have adverse effects on the outcome of cancer in children, and emphasises the importance of conducting an assessment of the nutritional status of such patients. The efficacy of nutritional intervention and the role of micronutrients in health promotion and disease prevention also are examined. (wz)
