Polymorphism and some characteristics of hybrid seeds orange-Citrus Sinensis (L.) Osb.
2023
A rationale is given for the importance of polyembryony for citrus fruits, including oranges. Diversity is seen as a powerful lever for creating new forms and varieties. Its positive role in the selection of citrus fruits is discussed as a result of familiarization with the theoretical and practical results of many authors. Knowledge of these issues and their practical implementation acquires a new need in modern conditions, because, for obvious reasons, the functioning of the field is far behind the real possibilities. The trial revealed a noticeable effect of pompelmus as a pollinator depending on the mating combinations. A direct correlation between the mass of seeds and the number of germs was also revealed. It is emphasized that consideration of polyembryony is necessary for selection of orange species. It is invaluable in creating the initial material needed for selection, breeding new varieties and forms. It is significant that due attention should be paid to the methodical selection of parent pairs. Tab. 1, Ref. 3.
