Complex assessment of the resistance to long-term water deficiency under field and laboratory conditions as a methodological approach in breeding drought-resistant varieties of cereals | Комплексная оценка устойчивости к длительному дефициту воды в полевых и лабораторных условиях как методологический подход в селекции засухоустойчивых сортов хлебных злаков

anglais. Physiological drought is regarded as an abiotic stress factor, under the influence of which plants experience a long-term water deficit both in air and soil. The negative effect of drought leads to the significant decrease in the yield of crops, i.e. cereals. The most important direction of research in the field of adaptive breeding of drought-resistant cereals is to create varieties capable of maintaining a relatively high level of grain yield under conditions of prolonged water deficit. From the methodological viewpoint, it is important to carry out the preliminary assessment of the degree of resistance of initial genotypes to prolonged water deficit before their inclusion in appropriate breeding programs. The research aim was to conduct a critical review of literature data mainly of the last few years and results of own research, devoted to the identification of direct and indirect indicators of cereals drought resistance to long water deficit. The resistance was estimated in field (comparing grain yield in arid and non-arid years; identifying indices of the degree of grain yield loss under drought conditions; assessing correlations between yield and tolerance to drought; diagnostics by a number of physiological, biochemical and embryological parameters, etc.) or in laboratory trials (drought modeling in climatic and hot dry wind chambers, phytotrons, greenhouses; application of grain germination methods and in vitro cultivation of organs/germs under selective conditions; assessment of tolerance to drought using molecular and genetic omics approaches, etc.). It is optimally to use an integrated approach consisting of preliminary laboratory diagnostics of genotypes with subsequent confirmation/refutation of the results obtained in the field. It is essentially to prove that results of laboratory trials positively correlate with the results of field trials; the main criterion of drought resistance of a genotype is the preservation/increment of grain yield under conditions of prolonged water deficiency.

russe. Физиологическая засуха расценивается как абиотический стрессовый фактор, под воздействием которого растения испытывают длительный водный дефицит в воздухе и почве. Негативное действие засухи ведет к снижению продуктивности культурных растений, в частности урожая зерна хлебных злаков. Важнейшее направление исследований – создание сортов, способных сохранять относительно высокий уровень урожайности зерна в условиях длительного дефицита воды. С методологических позиций важно провести предварительную оценку степени устойчивости исходных генотипов к длительному дефициту воды до их включения в селекционные программы. Цель работы – критический обзор литературных данных последних лет, а также результатов собственных исследований, посвященных выявлению прямых и косвенных показателей устойчивости хлебных злаков к длительному водному дефициту. Устойчивость оценивали в полевых условиях (сравнение урожая зерна в засушливые и незасушливые годы, выявление индексов степени потери урожая зерна в условиях засухи, оценка корреляций между урожайностью и толерантностью к засухе, диагностика по ряду физиолого-биохимических и эмбриологических показателей и др.) или в условиях лабораторных экспериментов (моделирование засухи в климатических и суховейных камерах, фитотронах, теплицах, применение методов проращивания зерновок и культивирования in vitro органов/зародышей в селективных условиях, оценка толерантности к засухе с использованием молекулярно-генетических omics-подходов и др.). Оптимально применять комплексный подход, состоящий в предварительной лабораторной диагностике генотипов с последующим подтверждением/опровержением полученных результатов в полевых условиях. Принципиально доказать, что результаты лабораторных экспериментов положительно коррелируют с результатами полевых испытаний, а главным критерием засухоустойчивости генотипа является сохранение/увеличение урожайности зерна в условиях длительного дефицита воды.
