As the climate changes, exotic species such as melons and watermelons are grown more and more frequently in Latvia. Often people ask about the suitability of these plant varieties for ours conditions. With foreign breeding varieties, everything can happen. It would be safer to grow ours. But are there any? Yes, the first melon variety created at the Institute of Horticulture we will release soon. [ABSTRACT IN LATVIAN] Mainoties klimatam, arvien biežāk Latvijā tiek audzētas tādas eksotiskas sugas kā melones un arbūzi. Bieži cilvēki taujā par šo augu šķirņu piemērotību mūsu apstākļiem. Ar ārzemju selekcijas šķirnēm var būt visādi. Drošāk būtu audzēt mūsējās. Bet vai tādas ir? Jā, pirmo Dārzkopības institūtā izveidoto meloņu šķirni drīz laidīsim tautās.
