Reconstrução paleoambiental com base em sementes (semi-fósseis) na área de proteção ambiental das ilhas e várzeas do rio Paraná, Brasil. | Paleo environmental reconstruction based on seeds (semi-fossil) in the area of protection of the islands and floodplains of the Paraná River, Brazil.

The floodplain of the Upper Paraná River is studied in the last stretch of the Paraná River in Brazil, where still there is an ecosystem with river-floodplain interaction, the flood pulse is considered the main factor that regulates the communities? structure and the functioning of this ecosystem. Although changed by the operation of the hydroelectric plants reservoirs upstream, the hydro-sedimentological cycles still respect certain seasonality. The present environments in the formation process of the islands propitiate different conditions for the deployment of vegetation and accumulation of seeds. The project evaluated if the acting hydro-sedimentary processes in a neo-tropical floodplain influence the composition of the vegetation structure through semi-fossils seeds preserved in sediments of three islands of the multichannel stretch of the Paraná River and if there is a connection between the vegetation change in the last 50 years with the natural changes (Niño and Niña phenomenon), and with the anthropogenic alterations (dams), using semi-fossil seeds as paleo-bioindicators. Through facies analysis of sediments sampled by the following environmental succession: Mutum Island: an open channel, which becomes "ressaco", lake reaching the current conditions of the swap; Floresta Island: the same sequence of previous island but over the terrestrial environment and in the Bandeirantes island with a very different sequence indicating the development of floodplain. In the deposits of the Mutum Island were collected 2826 seeds of 26 families and 34 genders, while on the Floresta Island were 319 seeds of 37 families and 40 genders. In the Bandeirantes Island were identified 1204 seeds belonging to 43 families and 43 genders. The variation in the types of seeds from the base to the top of the sedimentary column shows that the vegetation changes according with the affected environmental conditions and that the seeds have great potential as "proxy" in river systems. The analysis of the hydrological cycle over the past 50 years for the Paraná and Baia subsystem and Ivinhema subsystem, allowed us to prove that besides of the natural processes, the anthropogenic processes are influencing the composition of vegetation.

A planície aluvial do Alto Rio Paraná estudada é o último trecho do rio Paraná, em território brasileiro, onde ainda existe um ecossistema com interação rio-planície de inundação, sendo o pulso de inundação considerado o principal fator que regula a estrutura das comunidades e o funcionamento deste ecossistema. Embora alterado pela operação dos reservatórios de usinas hidrelétricas a montante, os ciclos hidrossedimentológicos ainda respeitam certa sazonalidade. Os ambientes presentes no processo de formação das ilhas propiciam condições diferentes para a implantação de vegetação e acúmulo de sementes. O projeto avaliou se os processos hidrossedimentares atuantes em uma planície de inundação neotropical influenciam a composição da estrutura da vegetação, através de sementes semi-fósseis preservadas em sedimentos de três ilhas do trecho multicanal do rio Paraná e se existe conexão entre a mudança da vegetação nos últimos 50 anos com as alterações naturais (fenômeno Niño e Niña), e com as alterações antrópicas (barragens), utilizando sementes semi-fosseis como paleobiondicadores. Por meio da análise faciológica dos sedimentos testemunhadas foi determinada a seguinte sucessão ambiental: ilha Mutum: canal aberto, passando a "ressaco", lagoa atingindo as condições atuais de pântano; ilhas Floresta: a mesma sequência da ilha anterior mais o ambiente terrestre e na ilha Bandeirante, com uma sequencia bastante diferenciada indicando o desenvolvimento de planície de inundação. Nos depósitos da ilha Mutum foram coletadas 2826 sementes, de 26 famílias e 34 gêneros; na ilha Floresta foram 319 sementes pertencentes a 37 famílias e 40 gêneros. Na ilha dos Bandeirantes foram 1204 sementes pertencentes a 43 famílias e 43 gêneros. A variação nos tipos de sementes da base para o topo da coluna sedimentar mostra que a vegetação se modifica conforme as condições ambientais atingidas e que as sementes tem um grande potencial como "paleoindicador" em sistemas fluviais. A análise do ciclo hidrológico nos últimos 50 anos para o subsistema Paraná e Baia e o subsistema Ivinhema, permitiu evidenciar que além dos processos naturais os processos antrópicos estão influenciando a composição vegetação.
