Determination of Feeding Practices of Dairy Cattle Farms in Konya Region

This study was carried out to determine the feeding practices of dairy cattle farm owners in Konya. In the study, a survey was conducted with 160 farm owners engaged in dairy cattle breeding in Konya. At the end of the study, it was seen that dairy cattle breeders are mostly between the ages of 40-50, they have been doing this job for 11-20 years and the number of animals in the enterprises is in the range of 10-50 heads. Of the 160 farm owners surveyed in Konya, 21 employ foreign nationals, and it has been determined that 91% of the foreign workers are of Afghan origin. Straw, corn silage, beet pulp and leguminous grasses are mainly used as roughage in Konya. As concentrate feed, mainly factory feed is used. It has been observed that ad-libitum feeding is preferred in enterprises and as the number of animals increases, the use of mechanization and professional help on nutrition in feeding increase. 95% of the farms feed twice a day. It was determined that the calves were fed with a bottle and weaned mainly at the age of 2 months. In addition, as a result of the survey, it was determined that the use of milk replacer feed was low. Approximately 25% of the enterprises have problems with calf feeding, and the leading of these problems is deaths due to calf diarrhea. In general, it has been seen that the enterprises have problems with the supply of roughage and the biggest problem related to feeding is the cost of feed.
