This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of fermented seaweeds foliar fertilizer on the growth and yield of rice. This experiment following the Analysis of Variance in Randomized Complete Block Design was conducted at the Rice Production Project, OMSC Murtha Campus, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro from June 2022 to November 2022. Two thousand seven hundreds thirty seedlings of rice were used in the study. One hundred fifty were randomly distributed for each treatment. All the plants were subjected to same care and management except for the amount of fermented seaweeds foliar fertilizer such as Treatment O (Control RR of CFF/16 L water + RR CF), Treatment 1 (0.75 L FSFF/16L water + RR CF), Treatment 2 (1.5 L FSFF/16 L water + RR CF), Treatment 3 (2.25 L FSFF/16 L water + RR CF), Treatment 4 (3.0 L FSFF/16 L water + RR CF). Experimental foliar fertilizer was obtained from seaweeds (Kappaphycus alvarezii) which was mechanically extracted. The extract was mixed with water and molasses and fermented for at least one month in a fermentation tank. Based from the findings, the use of 3 L of fermented seaweeds per 16 L of water foliar fertilizer significantly affect the growth and yield attributes of plants in terms of plant height, number of tiller, flag leaf area, number of productive tillers, number of grains per panicles, number of grains per hill and weight of 1000 grains. Moreover, study shows that there is a significant increase in the growth and yield of rice when the experimental foliar fertilizer was used as compared with the application of chemical fertilizer. It is therefore recommended that this potential fermented organic seaweed foliar fertilizer be used to replace the synthetic fertilizer for sustainable agriculture.Furthermore, studies shall be conducted using this natural extract to other crops.
