Efecto de número de tallos en la producción y calidad de jitomate cultivado en invernadero | Effect of number of stems in the production and quality of tomato grown in greenhouse

Resumen El jitomate es una de las hortalizas de mayor consumo en todo el mundo, su producción, calidad y tamaño es afectada por condiciones climáticas, necesidades hídricas y manejo de número de tallos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la producción de jitomate y algunas variables de calidad, en tres condiciones de manejo, en función de número de tallos. El trabajo se realizó en un invernadero del Colegio de Postgraduados. Se trasplantó el 20 de abril de 2015 con tezontle como sustrato, bajo riego por goteo. El experimento consistió en tres tratamientos (T1), con uno (T1), dos (T2) y tres (T3) tallos por planta. Se realizaron muestreos en el 1er, 5to y 10mo racimo de la planta, para determinar de los frutos el rendimiento, tamaño, firmeza, solidos solubles totales, acidez titulable, pH y cantidad de vitamina C. Se obtuvo rendimiento de 6.55, 5.91 y 5.45 kg pl-1 para T1, T2 y T3. T1 fue mejor con 69, 23, 8 y 1% de tamaño grande, mediano, chico y muy pequeño por planta. En las variables de calidad, los sólidos solubles totales y el pH aumentaron a medida que se incrementó el número de tallos por planta comparado con la firmeza que disminuyó. Se encontró mayor contenido de vitamina C en el 10mo racimo del T3. Se observó que al aumentar el número de tallos se incrementó la cantidad de frutos por planta, pero el tamaño y la firmeza disminuyeron por lo tanto se recomienda utilizar el T1 para frutos de exportación y T2 para consumo interno.

Abstract The tomato is one of the most consumed vegetables in the world, its production, quality and size is affected by climatic conditions, water needs and management of number of stems. The objective of this work was to evaluate the tomato production and some quality variables, in three management conditions, depending on the number of stems. The work was carried out in a greenhouse of the Postgraduate School. It was transplanted on April 20, 2015 with tezontle as a substrate, under drip irrigation. The experiment consisted of three treatments (T1), with one (T1), two (T2) and three (T3) stems per plant. Samples were taken in the 1st, 5th and 10th clusters of the plant, to determine the yield, size, firmness, total soluble solids, titratable acidity, pH and amount of vitamin C. Yields of 6.55, 5.91 and 5.45 kg pl-1 were obtained for T1, T2 and T3. T1 was better with 69, 23, 8 and 1% of large, medium, small and very small size per plant. In the quality variables, total soluble solids and pH increased as the number of stems per plant increased compared to the firmness that decreased. Higher vitamin C content was found in the 10th cluster of T3. It was observed that increasing the number of stems increased the amount of fruit per plant, but the size and firmness decreased, therefore it is recommended to use T1 for export fruits and T2 for internal consumption.
