Acumulación y descomposición de la hojarasca en un pastizal de Panicum maximum y en un sistema silvopastoril asociado con Leucaena leucocephala | Accumulation and decomposition of litter in a pasture of Panicum maximum and in a silvopastoral system associated with Leucaena leucocephala

Con el objetivo de determinar la acumulación y la descomposición de la hojarasca y la relación de estos procesos con algunos factores bióticos y abióticos presentes en un pastizal de Panicum maximum y en un sistema silvopastoril de Panicum maximum cv. Likoni con Leucaena leucocephala cv. Cunningham se realizó el presente estudio en la Estación Experimental "Indio Hatuey", Matanzas, Cuba. Los resultados mostraron que el pastizal de P. maximum acumuló 2,66 t MS ha-1 año-1, mientras que en el sistema silvopastoril fue 12,49 t MS ha-1año-1, donde L. leucocephala aportó el 75,6% de la hojarasca total. En cada pastizal se presentó diferente patrón de descomposición de la hojarasca. Entre las especies presentes la velocidad varió en el siguiente orden: leucaena mayor que guinea en el sistema silvopastoril y éste, mayor que pastizal de guinea. Los valores superiores de densidad y biomasa de individuos, el predominio de los oligoquetos, así como los mejores índices de diversidad, riqueza y uniformidad en el sistema silvopastoril, indican que la presencia de la leucaena en asociación con el pastizal de gramínea permite potenciar la actividad biológica del suelo y garantizar la estabilidad del sistema.

With the objective of determining the accumulation and decomposition of litter and the relationship of these processes with some biotic and abiotic factors present in a pasure of guinea grass, Panicum maximum cv. Likoni, and in a silvopastoral system of Panicum maximum and leucaena, Leucaena leucocephala cv. Cunningham, were carried out at the Experimental Station "Indio Hatuey", Matanzas, Cuba. The results showed that the pasture of P. maximum accumulated 2.66 t DM/ha/yr, while the silvopastoral system produced 12.49 t DM/ha/yr, where L. leucocephala contributed with 75.6% of the total litter. Each pasture showed a different decomposition pattern of the litter. Among the species present, the rate varied in the following order: leucaena higher than guinea grass in the silvopastoral system, and the later higher than pasture of guinea grass. The highest values of density and biomass of individuals, the predominance of oligochaeta, as well as the best indexes of diversity, richness, and uniformity in the silvopastoral system indicated that the presence of leucaena in the grassland allowed enhancing the biological activity of the soil and guaranteeing the stability of the system.
