Las actividades humanas producen una presión sobre los recursos de aguas subterráneas en las regiones áridas y semiáridas. El departamento de La Guajira al ser una zona deficitaria de agua, el recurso que hay debe aprovecharse al máximo. El conocimiento frente a la cantidad de oferta hídrica subterránea hace que sus caudales sean aprovechados al máximo en áreas rurales del territorio, por lo tanto, comprender la distribución y dinámica del agua subterránea es fundamental para la gestión sostenible del mismo. En este sentido, el objetivo de la investigación es formular una propuesta para el aprovechamiento sostenible de agua subterránea para el municipio de Riohacha, La Guajira, por medio de la utilización de la herramienta computacional WEAP, coadyuva a generar resultados a partir de la información teórica del medio físico y medio socioeconómico permitiendo conocer las características del acuífero, los caudales que se encuentran en él y la vulnerabilidad del mismo.

Human activities put pressure on groundwater resources in arid and semi-arid regions. The department of La Guajira being a water-deficient area, the resource that exists must be used to the maximum. Knowledge of the amount of groundwater supply means that its flows are used to the maximum in rural areas of the territory, therefore, understanding the distribution and dynamics of groundwater is essential for its sustainable management. In this sense, the objective of the research is to formulate a proposal for the sustainable use of groundwater for the municipality of Riohacha, La Guajira, through the use of the WEAP computational tool, which helps generate results from theoretical information. of the physical and socioeconomic environment, allowing us to know the characteristics of the aquifer, the flows found in it and its vulnerability.
