Análisis de los coeficientes de escorrentía y su relación con el cambio de cobertura vegetal de la cuenca superior del río Catamayo

This research was conducted in the Catamayo River upper basin which belongs to the Catamayo-Chira river system, between January 2013 and February 2014, with the primary objective of determining the influence of plant cover changes over the average runoff coefficient of the basin for the period between 1986 and 1999, using GIS and remote sensing as main tools of support. The applied methodology was divided into three main phases: the first one was the analysis of real runoff coefficients of the basin, by the ratio of drained and precipitated volumes through chronological analysis of hydrographs, isohyets and hyetographs. The second phase focused on the multi-temporal analysis of plant cover change, which was made by generating thematic information through digital classification of Landsat 5 satellite images and application of geospatial models and matrices for the collection, tabulation and interpretation of results. In the third phase, two indirect methods of generating runoff; the rational and the curve number methods were applied in order to determine which of the two holds greater correlation with the real coefficients, and, by applying two statistical tests; x2 and studnet t tests, determine the ratio of plant cover change with the runoff coefficient. The obtained results indicate a good hydrological state of the basin with an average runoff coefficient of 0.41, indicator of a good hidryc regulation, on the other hand, the plant cover changed 43.45 % of the surface representing a total of 367.07 km2. The burned surfaces show the highest percentage change with an increase of 340 %. The coefficients generated by the curve number method remain in a significant correlation of 85% with the real coefficients, therefore this method, which has as independent variables the soil hydrological groups, slopes and plant cover, was chosen to assess the influence of changing plant cover over the runoff coefficient. The evaluation was performed using two assumptions, the first scenario remained the plant cover stable, while the second changed the cover, allowing to reject the research hypothesis, and adopt the null hypothesis that says: “The plant cover change does not significantly influence in the fluctuation of the average runoff coefficient of the upper basin of the Catamayo River

La presente investigación se realizó en la cuenca superior del Río Catamayo, perteneciente al sistema hidrográfico Catamayo-Chira, entre enero del 2013 y febrero de 2014, con el objetivo principal de determinar cuál es la influencia del cambio de cobertura vegetal sobre el coeficiente de escorrentía promedio de la cuenca para el periodo comprendido entre 1986 y 1999, utilizando como principal herramienta de apoyo a los SIG y la teledetección. La metodología aplicada se dividió en tres fases fundamentales; la primera consistió en el análisis de los coeficientes de escorrentía reales de la cuenca, mediante la relación de volúmenes escurridos y precipitados, a través del análisis cronológico de hidrogramas, isoyetas y hietogramas. La segunda fase se centró en el análisis multitemporal de cambio de cobertura vegetal, el cual se efectuó mediante la generación de información temática, a través de la clasificación digital de imágenes satelitales Landsat 5, y la aplicación de modelos geoespaciales y matrices, para la recopilación, tabulación e interpretación de los resultados. En la tercera fase se aplicaron dos métodos indirectos de generación de escurrimientos, el método racional y el método del número de curva, para posteriormente determinar cuál de los dos mantiene mayor correlación con los coeficientes reales, y así, mediante la aplicación de dos pruebas estadísticas, X2 y T de student, determinar cuál es la relación del cambio de cobertura con el coeficiente de escorrentía. Los resultados obtenidos indican un buen estado hidrológico de la cuenca con un coeficiente de escorrentía promedio de 0.41, indicador de una buena regulación hídrica; por otro lado, la cobertura vegetal presenta un cambio del 43.45 % de la superficie representando un total de 367.07 Km2, siendo las superficies incendiadas las que presentan el mayor cambio porcentual con un incremento del 340 %. Los coeficientes generados mediante el método del número de curva mantienen una correlación significativa al 85 % con los coeficientes reales, por lo tanto este método, que tiene como variables independientes a los grupos hidrológicos del suelo, las pendientes y la cobertura vegetal, se escogió para evaluar la influencia del cambio de cobertura vegetal sobre el coeficiente de escorrentía. La evaluación se la realizó mediante dos suposiciones, el primer escenario mantenía estable la cobertura vegetal, mientras que el segundo presentó cambio de cobertura, lo cual permitió rechazar la hipótesis de investigación, y, aprobar la hipótesis nula que dice: “El cambio de cobertura vegetal no influye significativamente en la fluctuación del coeficiente de escorrentía promedio de la cuenca superior del Río Catamayo
