The Wildland Urban Interface Fire Dynamics Simulator (WFDS) is a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based fire model developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to simulate fire spread in landscapes. This paper presents a systematic study of grid sensitivity for two sets of cases, using a supercomputer. The first set of experiments involved ignition of Douglas fir trees within a controlled environment and studying the growth and development of this fire. The second set involved an Australian grassland experiment conducted on a s200 m x 200 m plot with a 5 m/s wind. Symposium held in Melbourne, December 2010. Organised by Victoria University’s Centre for Environmental Safety and Risk Engineering
