Dinâmica do carbono e nitrogênio em argissolos com plantação de Eucalyptus sp. | Dynamics of carbon and nitrogen in alfisol/ultisol of Eucalyptus sp. plantations

Understanding the dynamics of carbon and nitrogen associated with the physical and chemical properties of the soil are important for conscious planning the use and management of land under cultivation of eucalyptus in order to act positively on the quality of the environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the dynamics of carbon and nitrogen in surface and depth in soils cultivated with Eucalyptus sp., of different ages, in Central Depression and Southeast, Rio Grande do Sul. For this, was evaluated: a) a) through nonparametric and multivariate analyzes, the ratio of total organic carbon and total nitrogen with the physical and chemical properties at the surface and at depth in soils cultivated with Eucalyptus sp., replacing the native grassland; b) the accuracy of the employment Century 4.5 model in simulating the content of total organic carbon and total nitrogen in the 0.0-0.2 m layer of soils cultivated with Eucalyptus sp.; c) the distribution of total organic carbon and of total nitrogen in depth through the negative exponential mathematical model in soils cultivated with Eucalyptus sp. The dynamics of total organic carbon and total nitrogen in Eucalyptus plantations, replacing native grass, is related to the physical and chemical properties, and the use and soil management, recognized by the test nonparametric univariate and multivariate analysis. In surface soil that relationship is expressed by the variables already required at start of the simulation model of the dynamics of soil organic matter (Century Model 4.5). Depth in the profile, this association is more expressive with other properties, such as phosphorus, potassium, pHwater, calcium, magnesium, as well as fine sand, the SMP index and macroporosity. One can also consider, in the background, the coarse sand and clay. In a way this is important in the qualitative assessment of soil, since it makes inferences about the degradation process and the productivity of these soils. The native grassland had the highest similarities in the variations of soil properties in the surface layers, unlike Eucalyptus plantations in that homogeneity is more pronounced in the deeper layers of the profile. The Century Model 4.5 showed a good fit in the simulation of the stock of total organic carbon in the soil and can be used in the simulation of organic matter dynamics in native grassland and Eucalyptus plantations in the different districts. For the stocks of soil total nitrogen, even with the changes of parameters, the Century Model 4.5 could not simulate with acceptable statistical accuracy when compared to the observed data. The content of total organic carbon and total nitrogen in the soil depth of native grassland and Eucalyptus plantations has negative exponential distribution, indicating that the model was able to represent rated this dynamic. However, it should evaluate the quality of the method employed in estimating the rate of decay of these contents, since differences were estimated in the content of total organic carbon and nitrogen along the entire soil profile. Therefore, we suggest the development of new long-term experiments in Eucalyptus plantations of different ages in different soil depths in order to infer the temporal behavior of carbon and nitrogen in soil, based on the processes of migration, degradation, stability and fractions of these elements.

A compreensão da dinâmica do carbono e do nitrogênio, associada às propriedades físicas e químicas do solo são importantes para o planejamento consciente do uso e manejo do solo cultivado com plantações de eucalipto, atuando positivamente na qualidade do ambiente. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a dinâmica de carbono e de nitrogênio em superfície e em profundidade nos solos cultivados com plantações de Eucalyptus sp., de diferentes idades, na Depressão Central e na Serra do Sudeste, do Rio Grande do Sul. Para isso, foi avaliado: a) por meio do teste não paramétrico e das análises multivariadas, a relação do carbono orgânico total e do nitrogênio total com as propriedades físicas e químicas em superfície e em profundidade nos solos cultivados com plantações de Eucalyptus sp., em substituição ao campo nativo; b) a acurácia do emprego do modelo Century 4.5 em simular o conteúdo de carbono orgânico total e nitrogênio total na camada 0,0-0,2 m dos solos cultivados com plantações de Eucalyptus sp.; c) a distribuição do carbono orgânico total e do nitrogênio total em profundidade por meio do modelo matemático exponencial negativo nos solos cultivados com plantações de Eucalyptus sp. A dinâmica do carbono orgânico total e do nitrogênio total nas plantações de eucalipto, em substituição ao campo nativo, está relacionada às propriedades físicas e químicas, e ao uso e manejo do solo, reconhecidos pelo teste univariado não paramétrico e pela análise multivariada. Em superfície no solo essa relação é expressa pelas variáveis já exigidas na inicialização do modelo de simulação da dinâmica da matéria orgânica no solo (Century 4.5). Em profundidade no perfil, essa associação é mais expressiva com outras propriedades, como o fósforo, o potássio, o pHágua, o cálcio, o magnésio, bem como a areia fina, o índice SMP e a macroporosidade. Pode-se ainda considerar, em segundo plano, a areia grossa e a argila. De certo modo isso é importante na avaliação qualitativa do solo, uma vez que se fazem inferências sobre o processo de degradação e da produtividade desses solos. O campo nativo apresentou as maiores semelhanças nas variações das propriedades do solo nas camadas superficiais, ao contrário das plantações de eucalipto, em que essa homogeneidade é mais pronunciada nas camadas mais profundas do perfil. O modelo Century 4.5 apresentou um bom ajustamento na simulação do estoque de carbono orgânico total no solo, podendo ser empregado na simulação da dinâmica da matéria orgânica do campo nativo e das plantações de eucalipto, nos locais estudados. Para os estoques de nitrogênio total do solo, mesmo com as alterações de parâmetros, o modelo Century 4.5 não conseguiu simular com uma acurácia estatística aceitável, quando comparado aos valores observados. Já em profundidade, o conteúdo de carbono orgânico total e do nitrogênio total no solo do campo nativo e das plantações de eucalipto apresenta distribuição exponencial negativa, indicando que o modelo avaliado foi capaz de representar essa dinâmica. No entanto, deve-se avaliar a qualidade do método empregado na estimativa da taxa de decaimento desses conteúdos, uma vez que se evidenciaram diferenças no conteúdo estimado de carbono orgânico total e do nitrogênio total ao longo do perfil do solo. Portanto, sugere-se o desenvolvimento de novos experimentos em longo prazo em plantações de eucalipto de diferentes idades em diferentes profundidades do solo, a fim de inferir sobre o comportamento temporal do carbono e nitrogênio no solo, com base nos processos de migração, degradação, estabilidade e frações desses elementos.
