Utilização de NDVI para análise da influência da modificação da cobertura vegetal no regime de vazões | Use of NDVI to analyze the influence of vegetation cover change on the stream flow

As alterações climáticas e a intensificação das atividades antrópicas nas bacias hidrográficas têm alterado expressivamente o regime de vazões, o que se configura como um problema para os sistemas de gerenciamento dos recursos hídricos, pois estes são operados considerando a hipótese de estacionariedade, ou seja, a não ocorrência de mudanças significativas nos dados hidrológicos ao longo do tempo. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da modificação temporal e espacial da cobertura vegetal no regime de vazões na bacia do rio Manhuaçu, MG. A análise da dinâmica da cobertura vegetal, no período de 1986 a 2014, foi realizada utilizando-se o Índice de Vegetação por Diferença Normalizada (NDVI). O NDVI foi calculado a partir de imagens Landsat com resolução espacial de 30 m, sendo o seu processamento realizado na plataforma Google Earth Engine (GEE). Para avaliar a relação da dinâmica da cobertura vegetal com o regime de vazões, os valores de NDVI foram classificados em áreas de vegetação com alto vigor (floresta nativa, plantada, formação arbustiva e culturas perenes) e pastagem. Para a caracterização do comportamento hidrológico foram utilizados os dados de oito estações fluviométricas e 18 estações pluviométricas que apresentam influência na área de estudo. A verificação da hipótese de estacionariedade nos dados hidrológicos foi feita com a aplicação dos testes de Mann Kendall e Pettitt, ao nível de significância de 5%. Foram ajustados modelos de regressão múltipla utilizando como variáveis explicativas o uso do solo (β 1 ), a precipitação (β 2 ) e a evapotranspiração (β 3 ). A Evapotranspiração foi extraída do sensor Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), do produto Global Evapotranspiration Project (MOD16A2), a partir de 2000, com resolução espacial de 1 km. Em relação à dinâmica da cobertura vegetal, observou-se uma variação pouco expressiva ao longo do tempo, com pequeno aumento na cobertura vegetal com alto vigor e redução na área de pastagem. Verificou-se, também, que seis estações fluviométricas localizadas na área de estudo apresentaram comportamento não estacionário, com tendência de redução da vazão mínima e aumento da vazão máxima. Em geral, os dados pluviométricos apresentaram variabilidade natural. Dois modelos de regressão múltipla se destacaram por apresentar o melhor ajuste aos dados, um com duas variáveis explicativas (média de cinco anos de dados de uso do solo e precipitação) e outro com três, incluindo a evapotranspiração como variável explicativa adicional. De maneira geral, foram obtidos ajustes satisfatórios em grande parte das estações fluviométricas, sendo que os valores de R a 2 ajustado dos modelos de regressão múltipla variou de 0,59 a 0,96. A utilização de NDVI mostrou ser um bom indicativo para avaliação da dinâmica da cobertura vegetal; no entanto, a alta variabilidade dos dados, dificultou estabelecer um intervalo para a separação das classes de uso do solo de interesse. Os resultados observados confirmaram a importância do estudo do regime de vazões na bacia do rio Manhuaçu visando a adequação dos sistemas de gestão de recursos hídricos à variabilidade do comportamento hidrológico ao longo do tempo.

Climate change and the intensification of anthropogenic activities in river basins have significantly altered the stream flow regime, which is a problem for water resources management systems, since these are operated considering the stationarity hypothesis; that is, significant changes in hydrological data over time. In this context, the aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of the temporal and spatial modification of the vegetation cover on the stream flow regime in the Manhuaçu river basin, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. An analysis of vegetation cover dynamics, from 1986 to 2014, was performed using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The NDVI was calculated from Landsat images with spatial resolution of 30 m and was processed in the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. In order to evaluate the relationship between the vegetation cover dynamics and the stream flow regime, NDVI values were classified in high vegetation areas (native forest, planted, shrub and perennial) and pasture. For the characterization of hydrological behavior, the data from eight fluviometric ground stations and 18 pluviometric ground stations were used, which influence the study area. Verification of the stationarity hypothesis in the hydrological data was carried out with the Mann Kendall and Pettitt tests, at a significance level of 5%. Multiple regression models were adjusted using soil (β1), rainfall (β2) and evapotranspiration (β3) as explanatory variables. The evapotranspiration data were extracted from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor, of the Global Evapotranspiration Project (MOD16A2), since 2000, with spatial resolution of 1 km. In relation to the vegetation cover dynamics, there was a little variation over time, with a small increase in the vegetation cover with high vigor and a reduction in the pasture area. It was also verified that six fluviometric stations located in the study area presented non-stationary behavior, with a tendency to reduce the minimum stream flow and increase the maximum stream flow. In general, rainfall data presented natural variability. Two models of multiple regression showed the best fit for the data, one with two explanatory variables (mean of five years of land use and precipitation) and one with three, including evapotranspiration as an additional explanatory variable. In general, satisfactory adjustments were obtained in most fluviometric stations, and adjusted values of the multiple regression models ranged from 0.59 to 0.96. The use of NDVI proved to be a good indicator for the evaluation of vegetation cover dynamics; however, the high variability of the data made xiit difficult to establish an interval for the separation of the land use classes of interest. The results confirmed the importance of studying the flow regime in the Manhuaçu river basin, aiming to make the management of water resource systems appropriate to the variability of hydrological behavior over time.
