ESTUDIO DE LA ALIMENTACIÓN DE LA LECHUZA COMÚN TYTO ALBA EN LA PROVINCIA DE JAÉN A PARTIR DEL ANÁLISIS DE EGAGRÓPILAS

[ES] La lechuza común, Tyto alba, es una rapaz nocturna que se encuentra en declive en gran parte de Europa. Se desconocen los motivos que causan este declive. Las deficiencias alimenticias en algunas áreas podrían estar relacionadas con la tendencia negativa de la especie. Por ello, en este trabajo se estudia la dieta a través del análisis de egagrópilas de lechuzas de tres áreas diferentes en la provincia de Jaén. Se analizan las variaciones de la dieta, mediante índices que relacionan la diversidad de presas y la biomasa consumida, en tres ecosistemas con uso agrícola diferente. Se observa que la zona más heterogénea, donde se alterna olivar convencional y cultivos de cereal de secano, la lechuza presenta la alimentación más generalista, caracterizada por una mayor variedad y diversidad de presas; en contraposición con los hábitats de monocultivo de olivar, incluso siendo éstos de cultivo y gestión ecológica. Se confirma lo beneficioso que es para la biodiversidad un paisaje agrícola heterogéneo. Por otro lado, se observa que la lechuza se beneficia de la presencia de rata negra en zonas alteradas cercanas a núcleos urbanos. Pero este beneficio podría ser contrarrestado por los posibles perjuicios que conllevan los núcleos urbanos para la especie.

[EN] The barn owl, Tyto alba, is a nocturnal raptor that is in decline in much of Europe. The reasons for this decline are unknown. Food deficiencies in some areas could be related to the negative trend of the species. Therefore, in this work we study the diet by analysing the pellets of barn owls from three different areas in the province of Jaén. Variations in diet are analysed by means of indices relating prey diversity and biomass consumed in three ecosystems with different agricultural use. It is observed that in the most heterogeneous area, where conventional olive groves and rain-fed cereal crops alternate, the owl has the most generalist diet, characterised by a greater variety and diversity of prey; in contrast to the olive monoculture habitats, even when these are ecologically cultivated and managed. This confirms the biodiversity benefits of a heterogeneous agricultural landscape. On the other hand, it is observed that the barn owl benefits from the presence of black rats in disturbed areas close to urban centres. However, this benefit could be offset by the possible detriment that urban areas may have for the species.
