Valoración del efecto de diferentes tipos de agua sobre Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis y Gazania sp., con distinto grado de resistencia a la salinidad.

La sobreexplotación de los acuíferos en Canarias, la contaminación del agua de pozos y galerías ha conducido a que el agua sea escasa y cara. Si a ello se une el aumento de población y turismo y la existencia de una agricultura más tecnificada que demanda un caudal de agua mayor, el problema se agrava enormemente y ha obligado a buscar alternativas para evitar la degradación ambiental y poder atender la demanda tanto urbana como agrícola que existe. Es por ello por lo que el uso de agua desalada ha cobrado más protagonismo a lo largo de los últimos años en Las Islas. Es por esta razón por lo que se ha planteado este trabajo. Este ensayo se llevó a cabo en la Sección de Ingeniería, de la EPSI, de la ULL y consistió en utilizar tres tipos de agua diferentes para regar dos variedades de plantas ornamentales, de amplio uso en la jardinería, la Gazania sp. (Gaertner, 1788), resistente a la salinidad y el Hibiscus rosa – sinensis (Linnaeus, 1753), sensible a la salinidad. La experiencia se llevó a cabo, en un invernadero tipo Canario, sobre mesa de 7,5 m, de longitud, por 2 m, de anchura y 1,25 m, de altura, siguiendo un diseño de bloques al azar, con 3 bloques, cada uno de ellos formados por 3 filas de plantas. Las plantas se colocaron en macetas de 18 cm para la Gazania sp. (Gaertner, 1788) y 22 cm para el Hibiscus rosa – sinensis (Linnaeus, 1753), con un sustrato mezcla con el siguiente equilibrio 1-1-0,5, es decir, sustrato, arena y picón. En total había 108 plantas, 54 de cada especie. Las aguas utilizadas fueron T ₁ = agua desalada; T₂= agua testigo y T₃= agua de rechazo, salmuera, de un agua de galería desalinizada por ósmosis inversa. Durante la realización del ensayo se fueron tomando datos de diferentes parámetros cuantitativos como, la altura de la planta, el diámetro de la planta, longitud de los entrenudos, número de flores, diámetro de la flor, etc. Además, se analizó también, cualitativamente, el comportamiento de las plantas a la aplicación de las diferentes aguas, los efectos característicos producidos por el déficit de nutrientes del agua desalada y por el exceso de sales, tales como la clorosis, necrosis en las puntas de las hojas, decaimiento, enrollamiento de las hojas. Terminado el ensayo y después de procesado los datos estadísticamente, se puede concluir que, en las condiciones en que se realizó el ensayo, ambas especies no se vieron afectadas de forma significativa por la salinidad de las aguas utilizadas ni en su crecimiento, ni en su aspecto visual.

The overexploitation of aquifers in the Canary Islands, the contamination of water from Wells and galleries has led to water being scarce and expensive. If to this is added the increase in population and tourism ad the existence of a more technified agricultura that demands a greater water flow, the problem is greatly aggravated and has forced to look for alternatives to avoid envionmental degradation and to be able to meet both urban demand as an agricultural thas exists. That is why the use of desalinated water has gained more prominence in recent years in the Islands. It is for this reason that this work has been proposed. This test was carried out in the Engineering Section, EPSI, ULL and consisted of using three different types of water to irrigate two varieties of ornamental plants, widely used in gardening, Gazania sp. (Gaertner, 1788), to resistant salinity and Hibiscus rosa – sinensis (Linnaeus, 1753), sensitive to salinity. The experiment was carried out, in a Canary- type greenhouse, on a table measuring 7,5 m in length, by 2 m in width and 1,25 m in height, following a random block desing, with 3 blocks, each one of they formed by 3 rows of plants. The plants were placed in 18 cm post for Gazania sp. (Gaertner, 1788) and 22 cm for Hibiscus rosa – sinensis (Linnaeus, 1753), with a mixed substrate with the following balance 1:1:0,5, that is substrate, sand and lapilli. In total there were 108 plants, 54 of each species. The waters used were T₁= desalinated water; T₂ = control water and T₃= reject water, brine, from a gallery water desalinated by reverse osmosis . During the test, date were taken from different quantitative parameters such as the height of the plant, the diameter of the plant, the number of flower, etc. In addition, the behavior of the plants to the application of the different waters was also analyzed qualitatively, the characteristic effects produced by the nutrient deficit of the desalinated water and by the excess of salts, such as chlorosis, necrosis in the tips of the leaves, decay, leaf curl. Once the test was finished and after the data was statistically processed, it can be concluded that, under the conditions in which the test was carried out, both species were not significantly affected by the salinity of the waters used, neither in their growth, nor in their visual aspect.
