Macrofauna community and some biological parameters of Persian Gulf mangrove forest (Region of Bordekhoon)

Bordekhoon mangrove with an area of 22 hectares in Iranian side of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr province (51° 57' E and 27° 84' N) is one of the most important coastal habitats. This mangrove forest is about 80 to 100 m wide and approximately 2 km long.. A channel passes diagonally through the middle of this ecosystem and distribution of mangroves is higher in the western part. Present study was conducted in Mal-e Gonzeh mangrove forest region during four seasons in 2010 and some physicochemical characteristics, biodiversity and abundant of macrofauna were investigated. To cover all over the ecosystem, five transect were selected and sediment sampling performed with three replicates. Among the examined stations, six stations had clay texture and the other two stations had sandy texture. Twenty four macrobenthic species belong to four taxonomic classes of gastropoda, malacostraca, polychaeta and bivalvia were identified in which eight species were dominant in all seasons. Paphia galus (bivalvia) and Cerithidea cingulata (polychaeta) were identified as dominant species. Diversity and density of macrobenthic were directly related to physico-chemical factors. In conclusion, distribution, density, abundance and diversity of macrobenthic in Mal-e Gonzeh mangrove forest showed seasonal variations.
