Features of the catch trend of bluefin tuna landed at Shizuoka Prefecture

This paper reveals the features of the Pacific bluefin tuna catch trend landed at Shizuoka Prefecture, to organize the catch record of fishers licensed by the Shizuoka Prefectural Governor in 2015-2016 as part of fishery resource management, and the landing record at fishing ports in Shizuoka Prefecture since 1994. Annual catch increased significantly in 2016, because coastal and inshore pole and line skipjack fishery caught large amounts of Age-0 fish in November-December, and that volume accounted for 70% of the annual catch landed in 2016. Including all other fishery resources, the bulk of bluefin tuna landed in 2016 was less than 4kg, and the catch mostly comprised of Age-0 fishes. According to the catch trend and data on the length of the fishers recorded since 1994, the Pacific bluefin tuna landed at Shizuoka Prefecture are mostly branded "Meji" as per market tradition, and these are assumed to be mostly Age-0 or 1 fishes at the time of capture. Also, the annual catch of "Meji" fluctuates widely, and it can, thus, be concluded that the catch from the coastal and inshore pole and line skipjack fishery may greatly influence the annual catch in good catch years.
