Atividades enzimáticas como indicadores biológicos da qualidade de solos agrícolas do Rio Grande do Sul | Enzyme activities as a quality biologic indicator of agricultural soil in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar as atividades enzimáticas em solos agrícolas representativos do Rio Grande do Sul e relacioná-las com atributos químicos, físicos e químicos de solos. O estudo foi realizado em onze localidades do Estado, com diferentes características climáticas e topográficas, em solos com variação nas suas características químicas e físicas. Em cada local foram avaliadas áreas sob vegetação nativa (mata e campo), utilizadas como referência, e áreas cultivadas sob sistema de manejo conservacionista e convencional. Foram realizadas duas amostragens de solo: entre novembro e dezembro de 2005 e entre maio e junho de 2006. Foram determinadas a atividade das enzimas β-glucosidase, fosfatase ácida, urease e hidrólise de FDA, o carbono da biomassa microbiana e a respiração microbiana nas amostras de solo, coletadas na profundidade de 0-20cm. De maneira geral, os solos com maiores teores de carbono orgânico apresentaram os maiores valores para as atividades de β-glucosidase, fosfatase ácida e urease, com alta correlação positiva. Entretanto, esta relação com o teor de carbono orgânico não foi observada com carbono da biomassa, nem com a respiração microbiana. Os solos sob vegetação nativa em geral apresentaram maior atividade enzimática, seguidos daqueles sob sistemas mais conservacionistas, como o plantio direto, e os menores valores geralmente ocorreram em solos sob sistema de plantio convencional. Os valores de atividades enzimáticas tenderam a ser maiores nos períodos mais quentes. A β-glucosidase, urease e fosfatase ácida mostraram-se sensíveis em detectar mudanças, não só entre os sistemas de manejo de solo, mas também entre os locais avaliados. Entretanto, a hidrólise de FDA não mostrou-se adequado para indicar a qualidade do solo por apresentar valores similares nos diferentes locais e sistemas de manejo.

The study aimed to evaluate enzyme activity and it’s relationship with another attributes of representative agricultural soils from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was carried out in eleven areas of the state showing different climatic and topographic characteristics, as well a wide range of chemical and physical soil characteristics. Soil samples were collected in areas under native vegetation, used as reference, and under cultivation, conservative system as no tillage and conventional tillage. Sampling procedures were realized in two different periods: the first between November and December of 2005, and then, between May and June of 2006.The microbial biomass carbon (MBC), microbial respiration and the enzymes activities of β-glucosidase, acid phosphatase, urease and fluorescein diacetate (FDA) hydrolysis were determined in the soil samples. In a general way, the organic carbon content was significantly correlated with enzyme activity values. The biomass carbon and the microbial respiration were not significantly correlated with the organic carbon content. The enzyme activity was generally higher in the soils under native vegetation, followed by the no tillage systems, and the lowest activity was observed in conventional tillage system. The enzymatic activity values were higher during the warmer months, November and December. The β- glucosidase, urease and acid phosphatase were sensible to detect changes in soil properties caused by conservative practices, and also between the different areas. On the other hand, the fluorescein diacetate (FDA) was not a good indicator for the soil quality.
