Mapping Lateral Geochemical Variation of Jurassic Sequences in the Central North Sea

A series of maps detailing the spatial distribution and characteristics of geochemical data are presented. Key elemental ratios are modelled using a simple kriging method which balances the accuracy of the surfaces against the complexity involved in the interpolation process. While similar methodologies exist for various earth science related data sets, this research paper develops a method which can be undertaken by non-specialist GIS personnel at Chemostrat ltd and is economically viable to their business. The paper demonstrates the benefits that can be attained from geographical information systems (GIS) in a modern digital domain. The purpose of the maps is to improve the conveyance of information and interpretations made by Chemostrat within industry reports and academic publishing.
