How farmers in Miki town, Kagawa Prefecture, perceive community farming?

In Japan, emphasizing the inefficiency of the traditional subsistence farming system, the government has encouraged farmers to switch from subsistence to community farming. In the present paper we explore how farmers in Miki town, Kagawa Prefecture, perceive such switching, and discuss the implications. Our questionnaire survey shows that most farmers in Miki town agree with such switching, and that the number of the farmers who wish to actively participate in community farming is balanced with the number of the farmers who will retire from farming. Based on these results, we discuss the necessity and ways to satisfy those farmers' needs, paying attention to some obstacles.
