Environmental factors of jigging fishing grounds for swordtip squid (Uroteuthis edulis) were investigated in coastal waters off the northwestern Yamaguchi Prefecture, southwestern Sea of Japan during April to November in 2014. The main fishing grounds in May and June were formed in coastal waters shallower than 80 m at depth and moved to offshore waters after summer. Factors affecting the formation of the fishing grounds were analyzed using a generalized linear mixed model (GLMM). GLMM revealed that the number of fishing boats is affected by month, bottom water temperature, number of zooplankton and density of fish school.
