The significance of and problems regarding the existence of offshore trawling in the western part of the Sea of Japan: With offshore trawling in the Shimonoseki area as the main case

The purpose of this study is to consider the significance of and problems with the existence of offshore trawling in regard to our country's offshore fisheries. In order to clarify that, with offshore trawling in the Shimonoseki area as the focus of examination, how offshore fishery came to its current conditions, problems it is currently having, and the ideal way of management from now on were considered. As a result of this study, it was found that offshore trawling is an important industry which provides trading opportunities not only for distributors, but also for related industries in the Shimonoseki area. On the other hand, it was also found that there are some problems in maintaining business, such as aging ships, difficulties in getting and maintaining the number of crew, and raising funds to build ships. Therefore, for the ideal way of management from now on, it was found that it is necessary to consider a business style which does not depend on individual management, and also consider raising funds through joint investment.
