The establishment of freshness preservation technology for peach export to Southeast Asia by maritime transport

In order to promote the export of peaches to Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, we examined technology for maintaining freshness during marine transportation and the development of pressure-resistant cardboard boxes for export. Transport from the Yamanashi Prefectural Fruit Tree Experimental Station to Singapore by sea routes takes about 15 days. The temperature inside boxes during transportation gradually decreases from the time of the shipment but remains approximately at the set temperature after departure from port. In addition, humidity inside the box gradually increases, changing from 80 to 90% after departure. Keeping peaches cool (5℃) during domestic transportation, while transporting it by sea (at 1℃), and keeping it in a refrigerated warehouse (approximately 3℃) after arriving in Singapore will maintain its merchantability for 7 days following their arrival. Impact on fruit during transportation is likely to occur when handling cardboard boxes in the domestic market. Using pressure-resistant cardboard boxes prevents damage and enables efficient transportation. In order to transport peaches to Singapore by sea, it is important to establish a cold chain distribution system.
