An investigation of the diuretic activity of plantain following its ingestion by sheep
2015
O'Connell, Catherine Ann
Plantain was investigated for its potential to act as a diuretic in sheep. Two groups of sheep (n = 8) were provided for 7 days with either ryegrass or plantain diets that had identical water content. The results show for the first time that plantain causes a diuresis when it is ingested by sheep, possibly by reducing the reabsorption of water in the kidneys.
