The import of onion and its relationship with national production: 2000 – 2016 | La importación de cebolla y su relación con la producción nacional: 2000 – 2016

anglais. The relationship between the onion´s import and the national production of the item in the period 2000 - 2016 was evaluated. The analysis was made from secondary sources (MIDA technical reports). The variables used in the study were: region, the number of producers, production in quintals, volume/ha, and sown and harvested area—the data described through measures of central tendency and variability. The interaction between the variables was also established using Principal Components Analysis, and the highest incidence of production was identified. The results showed a reduction in output and an increase in the volume and value of imports. They increased the performance of producers in the study period. Likewise, the negative impact of the volume of imports on the number of producers could be verified.

espagnol; castillan. Se evaluó la relación entre la importación de cebolla y la producción nacional del rubro en el periodo 2000-2016. El análisis fue realizado a partir de fuentes secundarias (informes técnicos del MIDA). Las variables utilizadas fueron: región, número de productores, la producción en quintales, rendimiento por hectárea, superficie sembrada y cosechada. Los datos fueron descritos a través de medidas de tendencia central y de variabilidad. También, fue establecida la interrelación entre las variables, usando Análisis en Componentes Principales, y la identificación de las de mayor incidencia sobre la producción. Los resultados demostraron una reducción de la producción y un aumento en el volumen y valor de las importaciones, y del rendimiento de los productores en el periodo de estudio. De igual forma pudo ser verificada la incidencia negativa del volumen de las importaciones sobre el número de productores.
