anglais. In three different corn areas of Azuero Region was carried out three corn trials. The general objective was to assess the response of three commercial hybrids to different plants densities. The cultivars evaluated were the national hybrids P-9422 and P-9490 and the imported hybrid 3018. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Block in a split plot arrangement with three replications. The plants densities evaluated were 2.96, 6.06 and 8.88 plants/m2. The high density decreased the ear’s size of the three cultivars. Another factor affected by the population growth was the number of ears by plant. When the plants increased, a great number of plant without ears were observed. The number of plants obtain the optimal yield was different at the three sites. The highest values were found in Mariabe, while the lowest was localized in Purio. The plant population for optimized the yield of P-9422 fluctuated between 3.48 and 8.79 plants/m2, meanwhile, this values for the P-9490 oscillated between 3.75 to 6.99 plants/m2. The optimal population for 3018 varied between 6.15 to 7.32 plants/m2.  

espagnol; castillan. Se establecieron tres ensayos de maíz ubicados en tres áreas productoras de maíz de la Región de Azuero. El objetivo general de este ensayo fue el de evaluar la respuesta de tres cultivares comerciales de maíz a la densidad de plantas. Los cultivares evaluados fueron los nuevos híbridos nacionales P-9422 y P-9490 y el híbrido importado 3018. El diseño experimental utilizado fue de un arreglo de parcelas divididas en Bloques Completos al Azar con tres repeticiones. Las densidades evaluadas fueron 2.96, 6.06 y 8.88 plantas/m2. La alta densidad redujo principalmente el tamaño de las mazorcas en los tres cultivares. Otro factor que se vio afectado con el aumento en población fue la cantidad de mazorcas por planta. Al aumentar la población de plantas se observó un mayor número de plantas sin mazorca. Al calcular la población de plantas que optimizó el rendimiento de grano para cada cultivar se encontró que las misma varió en las tres localidades. Los valores más altos se encontraron en Mariabé, mientras que, los más bajos se ubicaron en Purio. Se encontró que para el P-9422 la población que optimizó los rendimientos osciló entre 3.48 a 8.79 plantas/m2, mientas que para el P-9490 estos valores oscilaron entre 3.75 a 6.99 plantas/m2. El híbrido 3018 varió entre 6.15 a 7.32 plantas/m2.
