Exploitation.- To take something out of an ecosystem means a relative reduction of the ecosystems biomass, and, if productivity is not negatively affected, an automatic increase of turnover. Turnover is much increased by conscious management for a high yield. It can be said that selection is no more in the" interest of the ecosystem", but in the" interest of the exploiter", that is, man. Selection for prolificity is encouraged, and r-selection spreads across many layers of the ecosystem. […]
