A computational study on the catalytic effect of heterogenously doped carbon nanotubes for the reduction of oxygen

Hægvirka efnahvarfið, afoxun súrefnis er mikið vandamál fyrir fuel cell tækni í dag vegna þess að það hægir á nýtni þeirra. Það er því nauðsynilegt að finna efnahvata sem er bæði orkuhagkvæmur og þolir líka spillingar í eldsneyti til þessi tækni verði hagkvæmur kostur. Búið eru að koma fram margir möguleikar sem er enn verið að kanna og einn þeirra er að nota kol nanóstrúktúra. Þessi rannsókn byggir upp á að nota DFT tölvuútreikninga til að kanna hvort hægt sé að nota bóron dópuð kolnanórör til að hvetja afoxun súrefnis. Einnig er gert örfáa reikninga á nanórörum með öðrum frumefnum sem dopant.
Afficher plus [+] Moins [-]The sluggish oxygen reduction reaction is a big problem for the future of fuel cell technology as it drastically reduces the performance of fuel cells. To circumvent this a need for a energy efficient catalyst that is also resistant to impurities is crucial for their commercialization. Many potential catalysts have been studied and discussed over the years, one contender is the use of carbon based nanostructures. This research consists two parts. We use DFT based models to study in depth the applicability of using boron doped carbon nanotubes as a catalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction. we also make preliminary checks on using other dopants.
