The three attached table sets contain data from two identical long-term organically managed field trials (Exp1, Exp2) that were started in 2010 and 2011, comparing plough (~25 cm) versus shallow non-inversion tillage (i.e. minimum tillage; 5-10 cm) combined with transferred fresh mulch to potatoes. In 2019, soil samples were taken from the top 15 cm and chemical as well as biological soil characteristics including morphological identification of free-living nematodes were determined. Soils were further evaluated in a greenhouse assay for their ability to suppress pea root rot caused by Didymella pinodella, Fusarium avenaceum, and F. redolens. Table 1 “Agronomic data from pot experiments” contains all plant performance data of peas (dry and fresh matter yield, seedling mortality after transplanting, disease indices of the root and basal shoot). Data are given for each plot separately (raw data). Table 2 “Nematode family abundance” shows the morphologically identified nematode families and their abundance (nematodes in 100 ml soil) per plot. Nematode families are further characterized according to their feeding types (bacterivore, fungivore, herbivore, omnivore-carnivore) Table 3 “Bioindicators from NINJA (Nematode Indicator Joint Analysis;)” shows nematode based-bioindicators that were used in the publication and that were obtained after uploading the Table 2 to the NINJA platform (https://shiny.wur.nl/ninja/). This program automatically computes individual bioindicators based on nematode ecophysiology parameters published on the NEMAPLEX website http://nemaplex.ucdavis.edu/. The indicators were calculated for each field plot separately.
