Soil - the main reservoir of biodiversity of agricultural plants and animals on our planet.

One of the main threats to biodiversity is the degradation of the habitat of living organisms - soil. The scarcity of land in our country is also compounded by the fact that significant areas are occupied by degraded soils (eroded, salinized, swampy, etc.), which make up 35% of agricultural fields. This condition of soils, among other factors, threatens not only the formation and preservation of biodiversity in Georgia, but also the development of agriculture. Based on all the above, we believe that the country should recognize the fight against land degradation as one of the priority directions of the country's development. Tab. 3, Ref. 2.
