Analysis of Iran's Drought Changes with Palmer's Self-Adjustment Index

Drought is one of the phenomena of environmental hazards that occurs in most parts of the world but its manifestation is more in arid and semi-arid regions and also occurs over a long period of time and alternately affects human societies through negative effects. It causes problems for water and agriculture, followed by the economy. One method of assessing drought status is the use of Palmer Drought Severity Indicators (scPDSI). In this study, the scPDSI index has been used to study drought and wet season during the period 1979 to 2018. In this research, data with spatial resolution of 0.5 * 0.5 has been used. The results showed that the cities of Bojnourd, Maneh and Samolghan, Gorgan, Shahroud, Tehran, Qazvin, Arak, Hamedan, Kashan, Bandar Lengeh, Fasa, Bandar Abbas, and west of Khorramabad have experienced severe to moderate droughts; These droughts have covered Iran with 22.06% in spring and 20.12% in summer. In general, the results indicate that droughts occurred from low latitudes to 33.75 ° latitude.
