Species of Pieridae (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) in the Invertebrate Collection of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (Brazil) with taxonomic updates, specimens photographs, and geographic distributions

A curation and revitalization effort of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA, Brazil) butterfly collection started in 2021, aiming to make information available for studies of all kinds. The present work inventoried the Pieridae INPA’s Invertebrates Collection as the first effort of a series that will deal with all butterfly families. Here, we updated identifications based on recent reviews, providing photographs and distribution data of the specimens. We recorded 575 Pieridae adults deposited in the collection, from 15 genera, 25 species, and 26 subspecies, with 356 (~62%) specimens belonging to Coliadinae, 218 (~38%) to Pierinae, and a single specimen (~0.2%) to Dismorphiinae. The data doubled the number of specimens and increased the total number of species by 47% compared to the last inventory, conducted almost 20 years ago. Updating this information in the INPA database may guide the development of research projects focusing on the Brazilian Amazon region.
