Poda mecânica na casta Syrah. Efeitos no crescimento vegetativo, reprodutivo e na composição da uva

A poda da vinha é a operação cultural mais dispendiosa, menos mecanizada e mais dependente de mão-de obra especializada. Neste trabalho avalia-se o impacto da poda mecânica no crescimento vegetativo e reprodutivo, bem como na composição da uva na casta Syrah. Para o efeito foi instalado um ensaio, na região vitivinícola de Lisboa, sub-região de Alenquer onde foi comparada a poda mecânica em sebe (MEC) com a poda manual a talão (MAN) ao longo do ciclo biológico de 2018-2019. Em comparação com a MAN, as videiras sob poda mecânica apresentaram uma carga à poda três vezes superior, induzindo uma redução no abrolhamento, tamanho das folhas principais e dos cachos. Devido ao maior número de sarmentos por videira, verificou-se um aumento na área foliar principal e total nas videiras MEC, resultando numa sebe mais densa com um elevado número de camada de folhas, estes efeitos conjugados com a maior produção provocaram um atraso na maturação relativamente às videiras MAN. O aumento significativo do número de sarmentos induziu o dobro do número de cachos por videira, com menor peso unitário, gerando um aumento significativo na produção. À vindima observou-se uma desidratação acentuada dos bagos em ambas as modalidades e as uvas da modalidade MEC apresentaram um menor teor em açúcar e pH e maior acidez total relativamente às uvas da modalidade MAN. O peso unitário dos sarmentos foi menor na modalidade MEC que apresentou um maior índice de Ravaz. A poda mecânica apresenta vantagens como o aumento de produção e uma redução de 68% no tempo de poda, no entanto, deve-se considerar as desvantagens, como o risco de decepamento de unidades de frutificação e o ligeiro atraso na maturação.

The pruning of the vineyard is the most expensive cultural operation, less mechanized, and more dependent on specialized labor. In this study, the impact of mechanical pruning on vegetative and reproductive growth, as well as grape composition, in the Syrah variety, was evaluated. For this purpose, a trial was set up in the wine region of Lisbon, in the Alenquer sub-region, comparing mechanical hedge pruning (MEC) with hand spur pruning (MAN) throughout the 2018-2019 biological cycle. Compared to MAN, vines under mechanical pruning showed a threefold increase in bud load, resulting in a reduction in budburst, size of main leaves, and clusters. Due to the higher number of shoots per vine, there was an increase in both main and total leaf area in MEC vines, resulting in a denser hedge with a higher number of leaf layers, these effects combined with higher yield, led to a delay in ripening compared to MAN vines. The significant increase in the number of shoots induced twice the number of clusters per vine, with lower individual weight, resulting in a significant increase in yield. At harvest, there was significant dehydration of the berries in both treatments, with MEC grapes showing lower sugar content and pH, and higher total acidity compared to MAN grapes. The individual weight of the shoots was lower in the MEC treatment, which showed a higher Ravaz index. Mechanical pruning presents advantages such as increased in yield and a 68% reduction in pruning time, however, disadvantages such as the risk of fruiting unit removal and slight delay in ripening should be considered.
