Use of Drought Tolerant Climate Friendly Ornamental Plants in Erzincan During Climate Change

This study was conducted to highlight the arid landscape approach in landscape planning, as Turkey is among the countries experiencing water stress and where the negative effects of climate change are increasingly felt. The material of the study consists of species in the ornamental plants collection garden of Erzincan Horticulture Research Institute and some natural plants with landscape value such as Weeping Bride (Fritillaria imperialis), Allı Gelin (Hesperis isatidea), Gypsophila sp., Osman flower (Vinca soneri), Yayla iris (Iris spuria ssp. musulmanica), Tasselhead (Muscari tenuiflorum), Monkfish (Muscari azureum), Wild tulip (Tulipa julia), Hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis), Çiriş (Eremurus spectabilis), Elderflower (Sambucus ebulus L), Camışkıran (Sicilia siberica subsp. armena), Boyacı sumac (Cotinus coggyria). The study aims to determine the financial advantages of including natural plant species in urban planning, to present suggestions for eliminating deficiencies if any, to increase climate-friendly designs, to ensure that plants adapt to today's climate conditions, and to serve as a reference for landscape architects, city decision makers, city planners and researchers working in this field. It has been determined that almost all of the 13 different species cultivated in the ‘In the Mini Botanical Garden of the Dryad' established in Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Yalnızbağ ampus are species that can become the main element of landscape design both in terms of landscape features and in the process of climate change. The use of these species in future landscape planning will be encouraged through interviews with city decision makers. Thus, a resource value will be created for climate-friendly landscape planning.
