The scree we are dealing with is located on the southern slope of the Sierra de Chichinautzin, and constitutes one more manifestation of the volcanic activity that has originated the Chichinautzin Basaltic Series. It is surrounded by older lava flows, which show a very advanced stage of transformation, starting from the original igneous rock, and in them we already find a climax association of holm oak with strawberry tree. When comparing the scree studied with other scree areas, we see that there is a certain floristic relationship between the lower part of the first and the old lava flow located between Cuernavaca and Tepoztlán. With respect to Jorullo and Paricutín, their volcanic activity is quite recent to the extent that in the latter, the invasion of vascular plants is just beginning.

El pedregal que tratamos se localiza en el declive meridional de la Sierra de Chichinautzin, y constituye una manifestación más de la actividad volcánica que ha originado la Serie Basáltica Chichinautzin. Se encuentra circundada por corrientes de lava de mayor antigüedad, que muestran un estado muy avanzado de transformación, a partir de la roca ígnea original, y en ellas encontramos ya una asociación clímax de encinar con madroño. Al comparar el pedregal estudiado con otros pedregales, vemos que hay cierta relación florística entre la parte más baja del primero y la antigua corriente de lava localizada entre Cuernavaca y Tepoztlán. Con respecto al Jorullo y al Paricutín, la actividad volcánica de éstos es bastante reciente al grado de que en el último, apenas se inicia la invasión de plantas vasculares.
