Evaluation of Alternative Methods in the Control of Sitophilus spp in Sorghum | Valoración de métodos alternativos en el control de Sitophilus spp en sorgo

anglais. The work consisted of the evaluation of two alternative methods for the elimination of (Sitophilus spp). Six treatments and one control were evaluated with three replicates each, the grain under study was sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench), cultivar UDG-110. The variants studied were: six treatments, three treatments with different doses of methane (20 mL, 40 mL, 60 mL) and three treatments with different doses of zeolite (25.437 g, 46.814 g, 67.028 g) and a control. In all cases three replicates were used. All treatments were carried out in glass syringes (100 mL). The application of methane was by lethal injection with the doses specified in the respective treatments. The tests were carried out in parallel in two laboratories (biogas laboratory, University of Hohenheim), Germany and (Entomology laboratory), of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas. The objective of the research was to evaluate the control effect of these two alternative treatments on the pest studied and its effect on the grains under study. The comparative study between both laboratories allowed us to observe the viability of this type of research. There were variations regarding the effect of methane as an annihilating agent between both laboratories. In the Hohenheim Biogas laboratory, the best control (67%) was obtained with treatment 6 (methane); while in the Entomology laboratory, the best control was presented with treatment 3, (27.00 %). The worst behavior occurred with treatment 1 (zeolite), which registered only 19% control. In the germination tests in the treatments that used methane, only treatment 5 with (73%) surpassed the control (70%).
