Plants containing essential oils in the flora of Khvamli and Nakerala ridges.

Plants containing essential oils, distributed in the flora of Nakerala and Khvamli ridges, have been systematically studied. Essential oil-containing plants have long been widely used in medicine and perfumery as valuable raw materials for antiviral, antibacterial, spasmolytic, hypotensive, and secretion-enhancing drugs. 42 species containing essential oils were discovered in the study area, belonging to 19 botanical families and 39 genera. The dominant families are: Labiatae (with 9 species) and Cruciferae (with 5 species), 21 species are herbaceous, 7 are shrubby, and 3 are arboreal. A Caucasian endemic species - Valeriana tiliaefolia. The research area itself belongs to the Kolkheti botanical-geographical province, Khvamli and Nakerala ridges are united in the forest and alpine subprovinces of the limestone of Western Transcaucasia. The Nakerala Range is distinguished as a separate independent sub-region within the limestone range of Racha and the Lechkhumi region. The latter includes: 1. Lechkhumi-Racha low-mountain sub-region 2. Nakerala sub-region 3. Satsalike-Khikhata-Leknari sub-region 4. Shkmeri sub-region. In the Nakerala sub-region, the authors unite the Nakerala Range, the Tavshava massif, and the Shaori basin. Our research area includes: the western part of the Racha Range, namely: Tavshava, Nakerala, Satsalike, Tsminda Giorgi. Fig. 1, Ref. 10.
