Potatoes are a globally important crop, and their production typically requires substantial resources and high nitrogen (N) inputs to achieve good yields. To reduce the environmental impact of potato farming, it is essential to optimize management practices and adopt high nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) potato varieties as an alternative to large fertilizer applications. Because various factors can interact with genotypes under field conditions, controlled-condition studies, such as in vitro systems, can be employed to evaluate genotypes over a shorter period. The aim of the research was to evaluate nitrogen use efficiency as well as the total fresh weight of potato genotypes under in vitro conditions. Reduced nitrogen availability had a negative impact on potato growth among the majority of genotypes, but NUE increased under conditions of reduced available N.
