The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the causative agent for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. COVID-19 is contagious and fatal to humans. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, significant concerns on food safety and security are rising due to potential interspecies transmission. As such, surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 on imported meat and animal parts is carried out and reported in this study to safeguard food safety and security. Overall, none of the 225 samples from various livestock (buffaloes, cattle, goat and pig) imported from seven countries were tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 with quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) from July 2020 to November 2021. This study finding serves as a baseline data for SARS-CoV-2 in imported meat and animal parts. Notably, this study accentuated the importance of active surveillance to prevent zoonosis and to safeguard food safety and security.

Locally, venison is considered as a premium and exotic meat, as it is not commonly found in fresh food markets and grocery stores. Despite its limited availability, demand is always high in its niche market, especially during festive seasons which highly escalate the price. However, as an expensive delicacy, deer meat is highly susceptible to fraudulent substitution and adulteration. Authentic deer meat are currently only recognized by consumers based on their own experience, meat texture, and taste which can be quite subjective. To assist in authenticating local deer meat in the market and protect consumers from fraudsters, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) analysis can be carried out to distinguish between venison and other animal meat and products. Farmed venison in Malaysia are mostly from the species Rusa timorensis while Rusa unicolor is bred in the wild. Here, we detailed a newly developed conventional PCR method that is able to detect R. timorensis and R. unicolor based on partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) in a single run, thus providing a simple and more accurate alternative in venison authentication.

In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was studied the possibility of increasing of meat yield productivity of ducklings of Temp cross in the conditions application of parental lines of Peking ducks of German breeding Stolle Seddin Vital (SVV) cross. In course of the study there was realized a comparative evaluation of linear and crossbred ducklings in accordance with meat qualities and blood indexes. There were presented the results of morphological composition of liner and crossbred duck carcasses; dynamics of changes of lipid exchange (total lipids; cholesterine; triglyceride) of ducklings; morphological composition of carcasses of father and mother combinations; blood indexes of ducklings; blood indexes of crossbred ducklings of final combinations. Research results showed that crossbred ducklings had high meat properties which exceeded the purebred ones. In ducklings with lower indexes of fattiness of carcasses there was noted the lowering of concentration of total lipids, cholesterine and triglyceride in blood.

Realization of veterinary and sanitary examination of meat and slaughter products of calves treated with hyperimmune serum against cattle colibacillosis was conducted in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. There were formed two groups calves of 3-5 days old. Calves of the first group were treated with serum biological preparation of trial series produced at Vitebsk Biofabrika (Belarus). Calves of the second group were intact animals. Calves of each group were killed in 14 days after preparation application for realization of veterinary-sanitary examination. Slaughter meat was studied in accordance with the following indexes: pH; peroxidase activity; presence of products of primary protein breakdown; moisture content; relative biological value of meat; bacterial examination. The research results of organoleptic indicators showed that meat of both groups corresponded to the standards. Hyperimmune serum against colibacillosis of live-stock animals did not render negative influence on organoleptic, physical and chemical indexes of meat. Indexes of the relative biological value in meat of calves treated with the examined serum were higher than the similar indexes of intact animals. Meat of all examined animals did not have any germs of toxico-infections and toxicoses

Analysis of influence of boar genotype by MUC4 gene on viability of progeny was realized in the conditions in the Republic of Belarus, as well as the evaluation of possibilities of association of polymorphic variants of gene with fattening and meaty qualities of obtained from the boars progeny were conducted. In course of studies there was analyzed the polymorphism of MUC4 gene at producer boars of studied breeds. There was revealed high occurring frequency of desirable allele MUC4**c and MUC4**cc genotype in all studied populations. Boars of Belarusian Meaty breed with genotypes MUC4**cc by MUC4 gene authentically (P less than 0,01) exceeded boars with genotype MUC4**cg according to piglet viability indexes at weaning period on 5,6%. For the further evaluation of the potential role of MUC4gene in marker selection there was realized determination of relations between genotypes of studied marker and other economic traits of swine (fattening and meaty traits of boar progeny). There was stated the authentic increasing of fattening and meaty traits of stores obtained from boars with homozygous genotype MUC4**cc in comparison with progeny fathers of which in their genotype had mutant allel MUC4**g. For the forecasting and modeling of genotypes resistant to colibacillosis there was presented a scheme of selection boars and sows of different genotypes by MUC4 gene for the increasing of progeny viability. According to the scheme the preferred selection was MUC4**cc x MUC4**cc. This selection was recommended for the self-replacement and creation of nuclear stock
